Population Census 2011

On 30th October 2011, the fifth National Population Census was conducted after 9 years from the last census count in 2002.  In between this two major census periods, a mini census was also conducted in 2006 that showed a major population shift at the time which captured the repatriation of non-Nauruan residents who were long term contractors for the phosphate industry.

The 2011 Nauru National Population Census was partly funded by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) through the development fund established within Nauru Government for special project purposes. Technical support for fieldwork training and data processing was provided by Statistics for Development under (SDP) Secretariat of the Pacific Community (SPC), based in Noumea, New Caledonia.
